How Viacom lead to the detriment of Hip Hop; loses another lawsuit against Google

Viacom BET Mtv VH1 SPIKE Comedy Central
There are 3 major corporations that own and distribute 95% of the music industry (Universal, EMI & Warner Music Group) They basically turned Hip Hop into Hip POP because they have control over the “urban” radio stations telling them what to play and what not to play (Payola for Pay). Viacom, another massive company, owns MTV, BET, Comedy Central and VH1.
Viacom in 2007 sued YouTube after Google purchased it for $1.65 billion. Viacom argued in the lawsuit that YouTube’s explosive growth was based in part on users uploading & posting videos of Viacom’s programs, which included The Daily Show and South Park, but Google argued that the DMCA protected YouTube from liability because the site promptly takes down infringing content once it is notified. According to the DMCA, safe harbor protection applies if an Internet service provider like YouTube “responds expeditiously to remove, or disable access to, the material that is claimed to be infringing.”
On Thursday April 18th 2013, a federal judge handed a major victory to YouTube on Thursday, one year after a federal appeals court breathed new life into Viacom’s $1 billion lawsuit. Viacom had accused YouTube of illegally hosting videos that infringe on the company’s intellectual property, including popular content like MTV videos and TV shows like Comedy Central’s “South Park.”
U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton, who has presided over the case for several years, once again found that Google and YouTube are protected by the “safe harbor” provisions of the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act)
Kent Walker, Google’s general counsel, said in a statement to TIME : “The court correctly rejected Viacom’s lawsuit against YouTube, reaffirming that Congress got it right when it comes to copyright on the Internet,”. “This is a win not just for YouTube, but for people everywhere who depend on the Internet to exchange ideas and information.” Read more on this story HERE

The reason why I’m making the connection between Viacom and and the Music Industry is because they act together with one cause, to stop the real Hip Hop culture from being aired to the masses.

When Viacom bought out MTV and BET, any music that had conscious or positive content seemed to be weeded out. Basically anyone who used their art, fame and wealth in the form of Hip Hop or other genres of music to make a fundamental change were made out to be unpopular (Hazel Scott , Tupac , Bob Marley , Peter Tosh to name a few ). In 2004 there was a list of artists that circulated that were banned from airing their videos (NEW videos only):

Reason why? They claimed their music is not "relevant" to the BET audience. (12-19 year old black females). But Nicki Minaj is? A woman whose name derives from a woman having a threesome and raps about sex and drugs showing her silicone filled ass? I guess that’s relevant to a 12 year old black female but not an artist that speaks about being positive and smart. Shows what direction they are steering a 12 yr old black girl to emulate.

When Little Brother’s “The Minstrel Show” dropped, BET refused to play their debut video from that album (Lovin’ It) because it was “too intelligent for the BET audience. So basically what they are doing is telling artists to dumb down the music to program our young black people to be unaware of knowledge of self.

Also, the radio Djs were actually being Djs, they were the ones that would pick a record and make it popular, now these companies are telling the Djs what to play, and these suckers play right along with them. It is another form of control since these major companies own the music industry which in turn own the radio stations.  If you feed people dog shit long enough they will put BBQ sauce on it.  Consumers can be taught anything. How many times have you heard a song on the radio, hated it, but hearing it over and over and over again, you succumb to it? I know I have, to me its psychological programming. So to program kids to like what they want you to like is much easier to do. You are being controlled, you being lied to , and eventually you will lie to others.

love and hip hop atlanta offthecorner

And the process keeps going and going and going like the Energizer bunny. The women projected on love and Hip Hop, which runs on VH1, constantly portrays them as fighting bitter ass women, the Atlanta show is just outright ignorant.

People really need to wake up to what’s going on and be aware to what the Music & Entertainment Industry is doing and has been doing for years. There is just too much negative grossly saturated rap music being fed to the masses. By constantly playing records about popping Molly, selling kilos, shooting n!ggas and sexing bitches you are really destroying what is supposed to be a fun, respectful and beautiful art form. It’s one thing to rap about what’s going on or what you have been through but to fully exploit violence, disrespecting your own people and rampant drug use in your music for monetary gain should tell you what They want you to be or how black people should be. Not being intelligent is the sure fire way to keep us shackled down. Slavery is not dead it’s just in a new form. Self-Slavery. KRS ONE preached Self Destruction way back in 1989 and we are still self-destructing.

WAKE UP.
