EXCERPTS FROM 9TH WONDER

In the United States there are millions of Black Americans between the ages of 28-40 that grew up in a time where hip-hop was diverse, informative, and soulful. These same individuals have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, accountants, dentists, etc., and still have a love of what hip-hop used to be. The media has demonized hip-Hop in the last 10 years; so many Black Americans tend to shy away from the picture that the media has created for hip-hop. True School has changed the minds of the generation before us (50's and 60's babies) and let them know that emcees such Chuck D, Rakim, KRS ONE, The Native Tongues, Outkast, and countless other has had much of an effect on our lives as our teachers and educators.

9th believes in the preservation of Black Music throughout all its divisions (jazz, gospel, funk, soul, afrobeat, hip-hop), and its connections to music enthnocology and the African diaspora. 9th was recently appointed the National Ambassador For Hip-Hop Relations and Culture for the NAACP by Ben Jealous, President of The NAACP, where he leads a board of PhD's, Hip-Hop Artists, and Juris Doctorates. 9th was recently interviewed by Neill McNeill of FOX 8 News in The Piedmont, NC, for a segment entitled "NewsMaker", to showcase North Carolinians who are making a difference in the community. 9th Wonder is also a member of the Universal Zulu Nation, a hip-hop peace organization started by Afrika Bambaataa in 1973.

                                                                The Foundation
 By Ralo

The urban lifestyle has always been a hive of activity in the world of hip-hop culture. First there is the visually arresting images of graffiti, then there is the hypnotic rotation of turntables. You can't forget the acrobatic display of b-boys or the oral expression of MCing.

The lyricist or the MC has long been the center of attention in the sub-culture of underground hip-hop. There are often many questions about who is the best lyricist or who can beat who in a battle. The topic of discussion also centers on who's new record is wack, and who's new record is heat, or which newcomers sound good and shows promise.  Lyrics, delivery and production all play key roles in judging the quality of underground hip-hop. Noncommercial rap has always had more poetic value than its corporate under produced counterpart.

This week our spotlight is on "The Foundation" featuring Mrthuzulah, Sa Roc, Big Lord, Miranda Writes, Prince Culture, Mateo Sounds And Ronve. This effort is from the ever evolving Universal Zulu Nation.

The Universal Zulu Nations Online Meet-Up

The following message is by Zulu King James Scott

We are creating a way to network our family worldwide to give the chapters and members a way to meet, chat, and network with their brothers and sisters internationally.  This will make Zulu Nation’s family stronger and giving them the opportunity to be a self-contained nation.  There are services that we can keep in Zulu Nation like graphic and web design and so much more.  Why go outside of Zulu Nation when the correct talent is already in house, that way we can decide our own path and not the path that we are dictated.  Using this infrastructure we can create a worldwide universal to take place on our own network every Sunday @ 4 pm Eastern time. This universal will be a positive atmosphere where dancers, artists, mc’s, and dj’s can arise to have the freedom of expressing and showcasing their talents while also bringing families and communities together.  Finally a foundation where individuals can make legendary Hip Hop history.

The Importance And Relevance Of Female Emcees... Miranda Writes Mix CD Coming Soon

By Samssun

Ever since Sha-Rock we (I) have held female emcees to a certain standard. Goddesses, Wisdoms, Earths, Mothers, Daughters, Queens, Princesses, etc. Women are the guards of the porthole into this plain of existence, the keepers of the birth canal, and the physical fragile tenderness which is the first glimpse into the meaning of life itself to a child! The definition demands accountability.

Sisters such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Bahamadia, Rah Digga, Lauryn Hill, and few others have made a mark that puts them in a league of their own in the ranks of crowd control, they can hold their own in the realm of a majority of male counterparts. Seldom seen in mainstream rap music are females who represent woman-hood, the art form, and self respect with an even balance! This (Hip-Hop) is different than any other genre of music, it was developed in the street to report the street honestly and is governed by a code of the streets! Key word, Honestly which means from the heart aka truth, un-tainted by the up keeping of an image or the desired to be perceived as “Real” which is generally fake as a 3 dollar bill! There is not a balance amongst male and female in Hip-Hop, the spotlight immediately goes on “Her” when she steps in the arena! A woman in the music industry is the voice of a sex that has been demanding respect from day one and all of her actions echo “yay or nay!”

Today, in tell-lie-vision, movies, radio, and all of media there is more of an outstanding need for Positive Female Role Models than ever before! Sadly shows like “Housewives of ATL, LA, NY, Orange County, Love and Hip-Hop, Basketball wives, etc” are mis-guiding our little girls into thinking that such lifestyles and treatment are proper aspirations! I recently watched Love and Hip-Hop for the first and last time and was sickened by what I saw, women without knowledge of self, a sense of self worth, and searching for stepping stones rather than being stones too strong for anyone to even think of stepping on! This is why we have a Nicki Minaj. On the opposite side of this coin are Jean Grae, Invincible, Apani, AtLas, Eternia, Pri The Honeydark, Helixx, Kalae, Narubi Sela and the many you do not often hear about that spit fire and/or are apart of The HipHopSisters.com Movement!

These sisters are not extinct, they do exist! They exemplify emceeing!
The Universal Zulu Nation is the first family of Hip-Hop, our Malikas have a lot to live up to. Miranda Writes is an up and coming emcee from New Jersey with respect for the culture. She is 17 years old, young, working to master her craft, and an up and coming member of The Universal Zulu Nation as well as the C.E.O of LPD Entertainment (which she owns and manages by herself with the support of her family) recording out of FrankenSound Recording & Rehearsal Studios with Tim Flanzbaum.

We (The UZN) support her and we expect the carrying on of a legacy in her work! To emcee is more than putting together a story with words that rhyme or getting a reaction, it is an art form, and a constant work to improve on lyricism and a craft. To emcee is to be a Wordsmith. To be a UZN Emcee is an honor! Her newest project is a Mix/CD called: “Say My Name” It will be available as a Free Download online for a limited amount of time at DATPIFF.COM While the physical copy will have a fixed price which is T.B.A.
